As we embrace new technology in the damage prevention industry, we have seen the most progress in the field data gathering solutions.  While IRTH Solutions has spent more than two decades in perfecting the tools for screening one call tickets, now is the time to expand the digital technology to the creation of the one call notification.  When IRTH Solutions introduced the IRTH One Call product, many call centers were using either paper map books or grids to define the dig site.  The IRTH One Call system became the first One Call Notification system to use true polygons to define the dig site.  By encouraging the utility members to register their facility locations using GIS, IRTH One Call centers greatly reduced the outbound notifications to the utilities.

But the greatest limitation was based on the excavators ability to define a precise dig site over the phone.  As more centers adopted web based ticket creation, the ability to more precisely define the dig site became a reality.  Using the tools provided by the IRTH GIS system, an excavator could simply draw the defined dig site, thus decreasing the notification area.

During this time, IRTH Solutions included the ability to upload or stream a polygon to the map so that the end user could take their construction GIS plans and create dig sites directly from their data.

The next logical step has now become a reality.

Full electronic white lining by using standards that are accepted by the GIS community.

The IRTHNet One Call system will now accept dig sites created using standard NMEA 0183/GPX formatted polygons/polylines.  These sites can be created using standard GPS information that is available in thousands of different sources.  From Smartphones such as the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry, to portable GPS units like the TomTom or Copilot, these solutions provide accurate GIS information and are available around the world.
